Vintage Race Cars and Wines
Reno Historic Race Cars Thunder Through Downtown
Reno Core To Kick Off Race Car Rally
The vintage race cars won’t be screaming around hair-pin curves and demolishing straight-aways at speeds of up to 185 MPH like they will at the raceway, when they’re in downtown Reno Thursday., April 30 -- but you’ll definitely get a hint of their capable speeds during Virginia Street Refined – Vintage Race Cars and Wines.
The 6 to 9 p.m. event is a partnership with the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA), the City of Reno, the National Automobile Museum and downtown businesses.
HMSA members own, restore, preserve and race the most historic and valuable sports and racing cars in the world. The rally precedes the fifth annual Reno Historic Races at the Reno Fernley Raceway, May 1-3.
The historic race cars will parade from the National Automobile
Museum on Mill Street to downtown businesses where they will drive by hotel
casinos twice before they park along Virginia Street, north and south of the
Reno Arch from Second to Fourth Streets.
Food and wine booths, entertainment and other attractions are planned during
the event on the award-winning, newly designed Virginia Street. The area underwent
a renovation to give it more of a plaza look and feel with wider sidewalks,
trees, flower baskets and banners. Individuals can participate in an optional
wine walk for $10 and taste some amazing wines while enjoying the race cars.
HSMA will have a drawing every 15 minutes for a free ride in a race car at the Reno Historic Races the following weekend in Fernley.
Reno Historic Races
The Reno Historic Races deliver an exciting blend of historic production and
special purpose-built racecars.
The world-class historic cars are divided into groups according
to make, age and horsepower.
A typical representation includes racecars from Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche and
Corvette that were raced in great series such as Formula One, Can-Am and Winston
Cup NASCAR-type stock cars.
One of the most notable features of the races is its “open paddock,”
which allows spectators the opportunity to walk right up to the valued vehicles
and talk with the driver and crew.
This year’s annual event will honor Vasek Polak and the great cars of
Porsche.
Tickets for the Reno Historic Races are available
at the Reno-Fernley Raceway; at the National Automobile Museum, 10 S. Lake
St. Reno Historic Races and Virginia Street Refined – Vintage Race Cars
& Wines are fundraisers for the National Automobile Museum.
